Member for Northern Victoria Tim Quilty calls for overtaking safety review of Black Spur
The following can be attributed to Tim Quilty, Liberal Democrats Member for Northern Victoria:
“I have driven on this road and am well aware of the challenges which face drivers along its length, particularly when it comes to overtaking.
“While cyclists have every right to use the road, it is also unreasonable to expect drivers to travel at cycling pace for kilometre after kilometre.
“I believe the installation of passing places and pull-off areas at key points along the road’s length, which would create room for vehicles to overtake cyclists at regular and safe intervals, and opportunities for slow vehicles and bikes to pull over and allow traffic to pass would be a cost-effective solution.
“I call on Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford to undertake a thorough review of this road and to make the road safe for all road users.
“This issue of problems overtaking cyclists and other slow vehicles creates impatience and, eventually, a life will be lost unless the Roads Minister takes decisive steps – steps that absolutely do not include lowering speed limits or closing the road.”
